To pray for others is to pray for yourself.

To pray for others is to pray for yourself.

To pray for others is to pray for yourself. There is a game my teacher in Sunday School introduced me to when I was younger. The game is called “angel and mortar.” In this game, the names of everyone in the room will be written on different pieces of paper and wrapped in such a way as to conceal the names. Each one of us would then pick up a name of a person already wrapped in a paper.

After this, we would spend a particular period of time praying for the person we picked in our personal time with God. The game was conducted in such a way that the people we were praying for would not even be aware that we picked their names. At the end of the stipulated period, we would each then give our prayer partners special gifts they would appreciate. It was always a surreal experience and it was so much fun.

But beyond that, it was always fulfilling because it was a privilege to see someone you had prayed for doing better. The basis for this game as taught by our Sunday school teacher was the story of Job. The Bible says that God instructed Job to “pray for his friends,” after which his fortunes were restored. Now, it’s interesting to know that God did not tell Job to pray for himself before he would be restored. God rather told him to pray for his friends for his (Job’s) restoration (Job 42:7-10).

This teaches us that there is power when we pray for others and not just ourselves. Firstly, praying for others rids us of our natural selfishness. You know, there was a time I got so insecure around my younger sister. I was literally jealous of her. However, I was shocked to the bone when the Holy Spirit instructed me to pray for her. In my mind, I was like, “What in the world, God! That’s someone who is literally better than me in everything. How do I pray for someone to increase higher when I am so low?” But then, the Holy Spirit helped me and I did begin to pray for her. And God has come and is still coming through for me in various ways.

Intercession is a great thing. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us (Rom. 8:26-27). So does Jesus (Heb. 7:25), and He desires us to imitate and imbibe His nature. Truly, when you pray for others unselfishly and from your heart, God hears and He comes through for them – but not without coming through for you in an even greater way! God is pleased when we pray for each other.

It shows that we are truly walking in love and we are truly concerned about one another’s well-being. It shows God that though we have our own problems, we are setting them aside, so we can bring to Him the problems of others. It shows that we are carrying one another’s burdens (hence fulfilling God’s law of love) (Gal. 6:2). What can make God happier than that?

When God sees a heart that truly loves unselfishly and comes to Him – as a Father that cares – with the burdens of others, He will bless such a heart.

Pray for someone today!

What prayer does to the praying soul

  1. Prayer fosters intimacy with God: Through prayer, we communicate with God and develop a personal relationship with Him. This intimacy helps us grow in faith and trust in Him.

“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:7-8)

  1. Prayer increases our reliance on God: By bringing our concerns, worries, and thanksgiving to God in prayer, we acknowledge our dependence on Him and strengthen our faith in His provision and guidance.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

  1. Prayer aligns our hearts with God’s will: When we pray consistently, we seek to align our desires and intentions with God’s plans for us. This alignment deepens our faith as we trust in His perfect will for our lives.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14)

  1. Prayer brings about spiritual growth: Praying regularly helps us remain connected to God and His Word, leading to spiritual growth and maturity in our faith.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)

In conclusion, prayer is a powerful tool that strengthens our faith by fostering intimacy with God, increasing our reliance on Him, aligning our hearts with His will, and promoting our spiritual growth in Him.

Ammgospel – ABBA AWARDS 2022, SESSION 1, Question 1, Entry 2

Answer to the Quiz Question

Prayer, which is very important, Serves as a medium of communicating with God. The Significance of prayer cannot be over-emphasized. Some facts are presented below-concerning prayer.

Firstly, prayer cannot be replaced by any other thing.

This implies that nothing can take the place of prayer. Let us examine the scriptures in the book of John Chapter 15 Verse 5; ” I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit for without me ye can do nothing?.

Since prayer is a major way of speaking with God through our Lord Jesus Christ who is the true vine, we have no other way of reaching Him and therefore prayer cannot be placed aside. Some of us might be of the opinion that what about songs of praises and thanksgiving? Let me assure you that all those are still under prayer too.

Secondly, prayer brings out the best in you.

Ammgospel - ABBA AWARDS 2022, SESSION 1, Question 1, Entry 2As true Christian, we all know that faith in God is very crucial. A Christian without faith is ultimately a fake Christian Likewise, it is only a person
with a great level of faith that takes prayer seriously, since most of what you request for in prayers are things we have not received but we believe that we shall get them from God.

Therefore, the true picture of man who is the best of him is portrayed by the level of seriousness he puts in prayers. The book of Hebrew’s chapter 11 verse 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of what things not seen.

Furthermore, prayer carries all requests to God whether silently or loudly, received or not yet received.

The fact is that all our requests are being channeled to our father in heaven, the Almighty God through prayers.

Philippians Chapter 4 verse 6; Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made Known into God. No matter the challenges we might be facing in life, the surest way of informing God is by prayer, although God who is our creator knows what we are passing through but definitely wants us to speak to him to better our supplications

It should also be noted that Prayer gives angels reasons to serve you.

Angels serve as worked or messengers to God. Whenever we pray to God, He sends his angels to serve us with our requests. Just as we are being seated by waiters or waitresses at restaurants, angels serve us as humans whenever we pray. The service can come in the form of protection, blessings, victory, etc., as we know that the angels have their own lines of Specialisation. Daniel Chapter 9 verse 21; “Yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning – being caused to fly swiftly reached me about the time of the evening offering “.

In conclusion, prayer brings forth testimonies.

A man of prayer is a reservoir of testimonies when we pray to God, and we receive what we asked for, we become excited and return all the glory to God.

In the scriptures, the book of Matthew chapter 2 verse 1 says: Ask, and it will be given to you.
Seek and you will find; Knock, and it will be opened to you. This confirms the power of prayer as a way of giving us reasons to testify to the goodness of God. If you don’t ask, you won’t receive. If you don’t knock, the door might not be opened to you and if you don’t seek, you might not find it. Therefore, make your requests known to God in prayers and your testimonies are on the way. Stay blessed.

1. GOD STILL ANSWERS PRAYERS IN TIMES OF TROUBLE

When we are pressed up against troubling times, let us look up to God for help. Turning to God for help is the best thing to do. Let it not be a one-time thing rather it should be our habit. We should pray habitually.

If anyone needed help in time of trouble, it was Daniel. This verse finds him sentenced to a pit of lions for praying to and worshiping God (Daniel 6:13-18). Psalms 102:17 says “He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayers”.

If we establish a daily habit of turning to God in our lives, it’s more likely to be our immediate reaction in times of trouble.

2 Kings 20:1-6 is a story of Hezekiah, he was sick to death and God sent His prophet Isaiah to inform him of his impending death.

When he got the message, he didn’t waste time thinking about resigning to fate or how to put his house in order. Instead, Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to remind God how he had walked with Him in his youth. And God answered him and added 15 years to his years.

2. OBSTACLES TO PRAYERS ARE OVERCOME BY PRAYERS

To be a winner in life, you must overcome the obstacles of life. No one ever wins a race in life without a press or a run. To be a successful and victorious Christian in life, you must overcome the battles of life. The Prayer of faith is key to overcoming the obstacles of your life.

Matthew 17:20: 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

The following list identifies the most common prayer barriers in a believer’s life.

  • –Unconfessed sins.
  • –Lack of faith.
  • –Disobedience
  • –Failure to forgive.
  • –Failure to pray
  • –Tiredness

Unconfessed sins:- When we harbor sin in our lives, it dams up the flow and scrambles the spiritual channels of communication to the Father. (Psalm 66:18)

Without faith: – settled confidence – in the character and power of God, we should not expect our prayers to be answered. Our faith in God grows as we spend time hearing the Word of God.

3. PRAYERS GROWS AS THE PERSON GROWS

Prayer” is a word and a concept everybody is familiar with. Muslims, Buddhists, those who practice Hinduism, and Satanism all pray. But of all the people in all the world, only Christians connect with the Creator when they pray. Prayer is, or it should be, the centerpiece of one’s faith. Many Christians believe that nothing happens apart from prayer. Jesus Himself advised His friends to pray that God’s will would be done on earth as it is done in heaven. Men ought always to pray, and not to faint. (Luke 18:1 KJV)

The necessity of prayer

Given that prayer is so important, it’s curious that a command to pray is not in the Ten Commandments. In fact, much of what we know about prayer comes from studying the people who prayed in Scripture, not necessarily from individual verses that give us detailed instructions. We can learn a lot about prayer by looking at how the heroes of the faith practiced it.

The more we pray, the more we know God and his plans for us will be revealed.

4. PRAYER CARRIES ALL REQUESTS TO GOD

As Christians, we have a way to acknowledge [our anxiety] and even plead in our despair and feel that we are not alone.

The specific passage is Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV), which states:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The passage above shows that through prayers our requests are present to God.

THAT ONE PRAYER REQUEST THAT REALLY PLEASES GOD! (One prayer that has answers to every other request.)

1 KINGS 3:7-13

When God asked King Solomon to ask for anything, King Solomon asked for wisdom, he didn’t just ask for wisdom to do his own thing. He asked for wisdom to take care of God’s people. Wisdom to lead God’s people the way God wanted him to lead.

And God granted his request because King Solomon’s request was sincere.

5. PRAYERS BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN US

The ABBA AWARDS 2022, Quiz Category Session 1, Question 1, Entry 1Prayer isn’t just about asking God for things you need or desire. It’s about establishing a relationship with Him built on faith and trust in Him. God knows the desires of your heart long before you even think to ask, but he still loves to hear from you—whether you’re asking for guidance or giving thanks—because it draws you closer to him.

Unlike the surrounding culture, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. — Romans 12:2.

Our transformation begins with a crucial first step. If we’re to become more like Jesus — and the best “us” we can be — we must understand that life challenges don’t make us who we are; they reveal who we are. We can take what is revealed through our challenges and use that as an opportunity to point us in a new direction. And if we trust in God, the challenge will strengthen our faith. Whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. — James 1:2-4

The hotter the fire, the purer the gold.
